President of the State of Israel Congratulates Georgia on the Occasion of the Independence Day
Speech of the President of the State of Israel H.E. Isaac Herzog
I am very pleased to congratulate you my friends, from the residence of Israeli Presidents in Jerusalem for the National Day of Georgia.
The relationship between our countries is special. It is warm, stable, and also includes brave partnership in many fields.
It is not just a diplomatic relationship between Governments and Parliaments, it is a close personal relationship between cultures, between people carrying on their shoulders history of thousand years, and of course, a story of the wonderful Jewish community.
Israel and Georgia are similar and close to each other. Our two countries are placed at the Crossroads, roads with geographic characters, between continents, mountains and rivers, and more than that, roads of religious, cultural, and historical characters. Crossroads between new and old, between traditional and innovation.
A fantastic and exciting intersection between our people took place very close to the Presidential house, in the valley of the Cross, in the Monastery of the Holy Cross, while the famous Georgian poet Shota Rustaveli, that I am a great admirer of his poetry, came from his country to Jerusalem, to the Monastery of the Holy Cross which is very close from here, not far from the residence of the Israeli Presidents. The outcome of this meeting, between Shota Rustaveli and the soil of the Holyland is familiar to us all, in the name of "The knight in the Panther's Skin", the wonderful poem, a Masterpiece and a cultural asset to the entire world, that was created here, in this land.
That is how one turn on the crossroads led an outstanding Georgian Poet to Israel, and the world culture to the wonderful heights.
Today also we are on the crossroads and this time our two nations are walking together on a joint path.
The relationship between our countries settled roots and grew many fruits, among them are the mutual history of almost 3000 years, and the wonderful community of Georgians in Israel who I already mentioned, and the prosperous Jewish community in Georgia.
Together with diverse tourism, with cooperation in culture, economy and many other fields, I would like to thank to the Georgian leadership and especially to you Ambassador Lasha Zhvania for the support and undertaking in very sensitive areas.
We are asking and hoping that the cooperation will extend to other spheres as opening a cultural Center of Georgia here in Jerusalem, and I am gladly looking forward to the upcoming visit of President Zourabichvili, a personal friend who I have known and respect for many years.
I pray that our joint path will continue, prosper, and flourish, it is a partnership that will build a future in which I'm sure our children and the next generations will thank us for.
